SAFE & CONVENIENT BICYCLE STORAGE

Every owner of a bicycle would be encouraged to use their bicycles more frequently if they can easily maneuver their bikes to the desired location and be confident about bicycle storage - that their bike is securely stored away while they attend to their work.

Rather than make frequent trips to the apartment bicycle storage locker, or lugging a bicycle up and down many flights of stairs each time you had to go out, one would definitely opt to use the facilities provided by a safe and convenient bicycle storage area.

When it is too difficult to bring one’s bike inside the house, it is tempting to leave it outside the porch or inside a garage. These are not suitable locations for bicycle storage and could put your bike in danger of theft. To ensure the safety of your bike, it should be securely locked behind locked doors.

Special consideration should be given to protecting one’s bicycle as much as possible from wetness and freezing. In the event that your bicycle has been through rain or snow, it is advisable to knock most of the solid mud or ice off the wheels and frame outside before bicycle storage. Bicycles that are permanently outside should at least be covered with a tarp.

Bicycles can be brought up on elevators for bicycle storage provided that they are light. The bicycle being brought up an elevator should be held straight on its back wheel so that it takes up less space. If the bicycle is heavy, roll it in nose first, and then pivot it so as to allow other people to get on the elevator.

Certain landlords and managers are of the view that bicycles bring in mud and inconvenience other tenants and thus disapprove of bicycles, and thus have no specified bicycle storage areas. Most condominiums explicitly ban bicycles from elevators.
